My Style Gets Sharper, My Voice Gets Louder
Believing in the unknown is the hardest thing to trust.
This collection is the pivotal moment when intuition took the lead of my drawings.
The Lines Grow Without Holding Back
This is the first time, in a long time, where I worked on larger paper again. Once I adapted to the space, it felt like a natural progression.
This collection is very special to me because I am able to start to tune into the moment where my thoughts and second guesses are turned off. At this point of creating, like a meditative state, I begin to really embrace abstraction with no biases or influences.
I want to keep working towards creating art that embodies pure drawing. To get there is a constant practice, but I start to find those moments of drawing without questioning in this collection.

New Ways Of Seeing
All of these drawings are named from one of my favorite books, "Being there" by Jerzy Kosinski.
This book is known for themes of identity, fame, and the nature of reality.
My favorite theme of this book, is the fact that the main character is such a simplistic man, yet the world is in awe of his sophisticated stance on the world.
I love this theory of being able to see the most simplest form in life in many ways and viewpoints. I hope the viewer can take that away from this collection, and continue to find new ways these drawings can inspire.

Line That Dances
I give myself time to really sit with these drawings.
Each one begins with loose, dancing lines of soft color. As I build the hues into something bolder and stronger, the lines grow with them, layering into this atmosphere of depth and movement. I work with soft pastels on sandpaper, which lets me build up that richness and texture.

Color Becomes Emotional
Color is an important component in this collection.
I always pick out a palette before I start these drawings. Though the hues shift, I make sure to ground the drawings in the colors that feel strong and soft. I start to explore my emotions, especially the ones I cannot quite name, with color.
Color creates atmosphere, communicates emotion, and drives each of these drawings.

About Jalena
Jalena Hay's process is immediate, embodied, and unrepeatable: each piece emerges from a single moment of presence, a real-time response to memory, sensation, and inner atmosphere.
Her work lives in the in-between: between abstraction and representation, between what is seen and what is deeply felt. Every mark is a pulse of presence; nothing is pre-planned. The result is a body of work that invites contemplation, not just consumption.
Color and line are not used merely for form, but as a felt language, a way of resonating with the nervous system. Rather than explain, her compositions resonate, vibrating with quiet energy and inviting repeated, deeper encounters.
